About David
David Fromant writes the articles in GovMan Knowledge from the perspective of someone who builds the software. He is a software engineer with more than 30 years' experience designing, building and maintaining web applications, and has spent much of that time on systems where security, auditability and data handling matter: government, not-for-profit and regulated commercial organisations.
David helped write the original code base for the Governance, Risk and Compliance system that became Pali GRC. He was later engaged by CCO Frameworks as Chief Operating Officer, where he overhauled the platform's code base and front end, and launched its sibling products GovMan and ProbityPro.
Technical background
- GRC platform engineering - data models for risk registers, obligations, controls and documents; role-based access; complete audit trails of every action.
- Legacy application modernisation - 20+ years with ColdFusion/CFML, alongside PHP and JavaScript; upgrading and securing long-lived applications without risky rewrites.
- Integration and APIs - connecting systems to third-party content and services, such as legislative obligations feeds from Law Compliance and LexisNexis.
- Australian hosting and data sovereignty - architecture and hosting decisions that keep client data onshore and under Australian jurisdiction.
- Applied AI - LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and AI workflow automation, and the governance needed to use them responsibly.
- Product management - taking GRC products from concept to launch, including GovMan and ProbityPro; roadmaps, pricing and packaging, and turning client and regulatory requirements into features.
- Product and interface design - consistent, task-focused interfaces that people actually use.
